Tributes have been pouring in for former Mayor of Skegness Sid Dennis following his death. Mr Dennis lived in Skegness his whole life and ran a family waste management company in the town called Sid Dennis & Sons.
He leaves behind his wife Marie who he has been married to for over 45 years, as well as two sons and three granddaughters. Mr Dennis was a bass guitarist and singer in a local rock band and in 1980 successfully went on to hone his skills as a comedian and after dinner speaker.
He was also a member of the Grand Order of Water Rats, a British entertainment industry fraternity and charitable organisation. Mr Dennis had been a councillor for around a decade and was heavily involved in the Skegness community.
Many people have left tributes for him on social media. On Wednesday, July 17, Skegness town councillor Julie Sadler said: “I’m heartbroken and devastated to hear of the sad loss of Sid Dennis earlier this morning. Sid was not only a wonderful friend but also the best colleague you could wish for with a heart of gold, a true gentleman.
“Thank you Sid for always being there for me and believing in me. My sincere condolences and love to Marie, Nick, Sid and all family. Oh goodness Sid I’m going to miss you, sleep tight my dear friend. As always, no more than a smile and a wave away. Rest In Peace Sid.”

Skegness town councillor Steve O’Dare said: “Sid Dennis left us yesterday. A great friend and colleague. Sleep well. Condolences to family and friends.”
Jan Faulkner-Smith said: “So so sorry to hear the terrible news that my friend Sid Dennis has passed away. My thoughts go out to all his family. This world will be a sadder place without his banter and humour, a legend in his own right. RIP Sid you were a very special man.”
The Ship & Atlantic Bar in Skegness posted: “An Incredible man! A loss that so many will feel! I know everyone will be joining us in sending our love, support and prayers to Marie, Nick, Sid and The Dennis family at such a sad time for their family.
“He was so many amazing things to so many people in our community. To us he was our most treasured friend. Until we see you again one day Mr Sid! We love you beyond words.”
The Hildreds Centre posted: “Our thoughts are with Sid Dennis and his family today at this sad time. Sid was a good friend to The Hildreds and an incredible ambassador for our town, he will be greatly missed.”
The Grand Order of Water Rats posted: “It is with great sadness to have to announce the passing of PTG Sid Dennis. A lovely, charismatic man who will be deeply missed by all the brother rats.”
Town councillor Carl Macey said: “Heartbroken to hear the news earlier of the loss of Sid Dennis, who was a good friend, excellent councillor and an all round pillar of Skegness and everyone he touched in life. My family and I’s love and thoughts go out to Marie, Nick, Sid and all family. A fantastic man who I will miss personally daily.”
