The Lincolnite registers Grimsby office address after eviction from Lincoln city centre space

A news publisher previously based in Lincoln has registered a new office address in Grimsby. The Lincolnite, owned by Stonebow Media, was evicted from its offices on the University of Lincoln‘s Brayford campus in June after failing to pay rent.

Due to an accrual of rent arrears, understood to be dating back many months, the university changed the locks on the office doors and removed The Lincolnite’s access to the Sparkhouse building. The university said it had “asserted its rights as the landlord and freehold owner of Sparkhouse”.

After the eviction, founder and editor of The Lincolnite, Daniel Ionescu, said the company was moving to new premises in the city centre as part of “ambitious expansion plans”, which include launching some operations in London. Stonebow Media has since registered a new office address on Companies House of Cleethorpe Road in Grimsby. This is understood to be the address of the Stonebow Media’s accountants, AP Robinson, and not a new work space.

It is not yet clear where specifically the news publisher will relocate to and Mr Ionescu did not offer a comment when asked about the move.

The Lincolnite was a tenant at Sparkhouse and received support from the university for 14 years. Sparkhouse was established by the university in 2003 with the aim of providing start-up businesses with the facilities and support they need to launch and grow.

Mr Ionescu launched the MyLocal Lincolnshire website and app in May 2023 with an aim to publish and monetise local content. The idea was that sources like the police, councils or fire service could post their announcements and press releases directly on the MyLocal platform without journalists having to write the story themselves.

Previously, Katrina Burrill, director of Stonebow Media and MyLocal, said: “Looking ahead, we are incredibly excited about the expansion plans for Stonebow Media and MyLocal. These developments promise not only to enhance our capabilities but also to create opportunities for innovation and community engagement in the field of independent publishing.”

According to Stonebow Media’s latest balance sheet on Companies House as of August 31, 2023, the company owes creditors £174,574 which is almost quadruple what it owed the previous year.
