Husband and wife duo to run new farm shop in beautiful setting at Grimsthorpe Castle

A new farm shop run by an experienced husband and wife duo will open at Grimsthorpe Castle this month. The new addition to the historic Lincolnshire estate, named Grimsthorpe Farm Shop, will be run by John and Lesley Berry.

John and Lesley retired from the Cholmeley Arms and Berry’s Farm Shop near Grantham in July 2023. With a lifelong background in hospitality and food production, John missed running the farm shop so decided to take on the new venture at Grimsthorpe, which will officially open on Friday, October 18.

The pair are committed to supporting local farms and stocking the finest locally sourced produce. Their goal is to make fresh, local ingredients, including venison and game from the Grimsthorpe Estate, more accessible to visitors.

The shop will also feature giftware from Grimsthorpe Castle, giving customers a one-stop shop for both produce and souvenirs. It will be located in the courtyard before the park entrance, sharing its access with the current gift shop and offering free parking.

No park tickets are required to visit the farm, making it accessible for local residents and visitors alike. A Grimsthorpe Castle spokesperson said: “Initially, the farm shop will be open Thursday to Saturday, 10am until 5pm, with longer hours planned over the Christmas period.

“The shop will also be open on all Grimsthorpe Castle open days during the park and gardens season in 2025. For the Christmas season, John and Lesley will also be taking pre-orders for seasonal produce.”

In addition to the farm shop, The March Hare Tea Trailer will continue to serve delicious refreshments throughout the winter months at Grimsthorpe, offering breakfasts, lunches and treats to visitors of the estate. The tea trailer will be open from October until April every Friday and Saturday from 10am until 2pm, as well as throughout the October half term.
